London: British Prince Harry has lost a court battle against the British government withdrawing his security arrangements after he decided to step down from royal duties with his American wife Meghan.
Harry, the younger son of King Charles, had sought to overturn a Home Office decision in February 2020 that ruled he would not automatically receive personal police security while in the UK.
Last year, the High Court in London ruled that the decision was legal and the decision was upheld by three senior judges of the Court of Appeal, stating that although Harry regretted it, there was no error of law in the decision.
The Duke of Sussex told the BBC he would “love to reconcile” with the royal family, in an emotional interview, saying he was “shocked” to lose a legal challenge to his security in the UK.
“The king will not speak to me because of this security,” Prince Harry said, “but I don’t want to fight anymore, and I don’t know how much time my father has.”
Speaking to the BBC in California, Prince Harry said it was important what level of security he and his family would have while in the UK.
Buckingham Palace said, “All these cases have been reviewed repeatedly and meticulously by the courts and the same conclusion has been reached on each occasion.”
After the court ruling, Prince Harry said, “I can’t see a world where, at this point, I would bring my wife and children back to the UK.”
He added, “There have been many differences between me and some of my family, but I have forgiven them now.”
Harry said, “I would love to reconcile with my family, there is no point in continuing to fight anymore, life is precious, the conflict over my safety has always been a key point.”
Prince Harry had wanted changes to his security in the UK made in 2020, since he stepped down as a senior royal and moved to the US.
Saying he felt “disappointed,” he described his court defeat as “a good old-fashioned establishment” and accused the royal family of influencing the decision to reduce his security.
When Prince Harry was asked if he had asked the Saudi king to intervene in the security dispute, he said, “I never asked him to intervene.”
