London: The UK’s decision to supply parts for F-35 fighter jets to Israel has been challenged in court.
The Palestinian human rights organization “Al-Haq” has filed a petition in the High Court, arguing that providing parts for these deadly aircraft to Israel is tantamount to facilitating war crimes.
The petitioner’s lawyer said in court: “What is happening in Gaza cannot be described in words, Israel has wiped out an entire society in just 18 months.”
He claimed that more than 55,000 Palestinians have been martyred since October 2023, and Britain’s continued supply of F-35 parts in this situation is a violation of international law.
The UK suspended several arms export licenses to Israel in 2023, but the supply of F-35 parts was exempted.
The court documents show that this decision was made on the advice of the Defence Secretary.
On the other hand, the British government argues that the supply of these parts could have a profound impact on international peace and security.
Interestingly, several anti-war members of the UK parliament are also supporting this court case.
The High Court’s decision is expected in the next few days.
