London: The British government has appointed Blaise Matrivelli as the head of the country’s intelligence agency (MI6) for the first time.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in his announcement on Sunday that the country faces “unprecedented threats.”
The British MI6 Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) gained international fame thanks to Ian Fleming’s legendary agent James Bond.
According to a statement issued by 10 Downing Street, Matrivelli will be the 18th head of MI6.
Prime Minister Starmer said, “Blaise Matrivelli’s historic appointment comes at a time when the role of our intelligence services has become more important than ever.”
He added: “Britain faces threats on an unprecedented scale. Whether it’s enemies who send their spy ships into our waters or hackers who seek to disrupt our public services through their sophisticated cyber attacks.
