London/Kerala: Britain’s most advanced fighter jet, the Royal Navy F-35B, made an emergency landing in India last month during the Iran-Israel war and was there for 19 days.

According to Indian media reports, the British Royal Navy’s F-35B, one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets, made an unexpected landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala.

The report states that after this incident, Britain is airlifting the plane after attempts to repair it in the air failed, for which it is being transported by a C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft.

Indian media reported that the $110 million British aircraft, one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets, made an emergency landing in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on June 14.

It was further reported that the British fighter jet is on the ground awaiting repairs for a technical fault.

Officials said that a 40-member team of aviation engineers from the UK is expected to arrive at the Thiruvananthapuram airport by July 5 to carry out the necessary repairs to the fighter jet.

The report quoted sources as saying that the British authorities have not given Indian engineers access to the aircraft for repairs, and it has not even been moved to the airport hangar. However, the F-35B is still in Kerala and is being guarded by a six-member team of the British Royal Navy.

According to a statement issued by the British High Commission in India last week, the reason for the emergency landing of the fighter jet was bad weather conditions and due to which the aircraft could not land safely on the carrier and the pilot landed the fighter jet safely in Thiruvananthapuram.

The report did not clarify what the British Royal Fighter Aircraft F-35B was doing in the region and under what mission it was flying, but the British Royal Navy conducted joint exercises with the Indian Navy in early June.

The F-35B is the only fifth-generation fighter aircraft with short take-off and vertical landing capabilities, which makes it ideal for operating from small decks, difficult bases and sea vessels.

British officials said about the aircraft that the F-35B will be returned to service after a complete overhaul and safety check.
