London: A 10-year record of arrests in London has been broken. 474 people were arrested at a demonstration in favor of the banned organization ‘Palestine Action’.

They were participating in the largest demonstration against the government’s ban on the Palestine Action Group.

According to the Metropolitan Police, police were also called from other British cities before the demonstration in central London to ensure a “significant security arrangement”.

The demonstration took place in Parliament Square, where organizers said about 1,000 people attended. Police estimated the number of participants at 500 to 600.

The arrests were mostly of people holding placards or banners supporting Palestine Action.

Police detained eight more people on other charges, including five for assaulting officers. Most of those arrested were released on bail at the scene.

British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper defended the move, saying it was not a non-violent organisation. Britain’s national security and public safety are our priority.
