London: Cambridge University Press and Assessment has launched the Pakistan edition of Climate Quest, which aims to equip young students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to face the climate crisis.
The University of Cambridge said in a statement that it is a revolutionary environmental education program, developed in collaboration with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
The statement added that the Pakistan edition is part of Cambridge’s global commitment to include environmental education in the curriculum at all levels.
The University of Cambridge said in a statement that this free two and a half hour online course, which can be completed at your own pace, is designed for students from grades 8 to 12 and is available to all education boards, including government schools.
“The course provides basic awareness of climate change and connects global science to key issues in Pakistan such as the 2010 floods, the 2017 heatwave, Lahore’s air pollution and national policies (e.g., flood prevention plans),” the statement added.
The Climate Quest empowers students to translate their learning into practical projects and take action in their communities to promote sustainability and climate resilience.
The course’s launch in Pakistan was attended by school principals, policymakers, journalists and representatives from the Ministry of Environment.
Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Faisal Khan Tarakai and Parliamentary Secretary Farah Naz Akbar were present on the occasion.
