London: The British government has decided to ban the availability of high-caffeine energy drinks to children under 16 in England.
The sale of high-caffeine energy drinks like Red Bull to young people under 16 in England will be banned under the government’s announced plans.
Health Minister Wes Strating said in a statement: “By stopping shops from selling these drinks to children, we are helping to build the foundations for healthier and happier generations to come.”
A third of 13- to 16-year-olds in England are thought to consume energy drinks, some of which contain more caffeine than two cups of coffee.
The government says most supermarkets have introduced a voluntary ban.
