London: The world’s busiest Heathrow Airport and check-in and boarding systems installed at several major airports in European countries have been targeted by cyber attacks, after which many flights have been canceled or delayed.
London’s Heathrow Airport, Brussels and Berlin airports have been under cyber attack.
Flight operations at these airports have been disrupted, while many flights have had to be canceled.
London’s Heathrow Airport has warned of flight delays due to a ‘technical issue’ following a cyber attack.
The affected airports have advised passengers to check their flight schedules before arriving.
Passengers with scheduled flights on Saturday were advised by the affected airports to confirm their travel with their airlines before going to the airport.
Heathrow Airport warned in a late warning that Collins Aerospace, which supplies systems to many airlines at airports worldwide, was experiencing a technical issue due to a cyber attack, which could lead to delays for passengers.
The attack at Brussels Airport has disabled the automated system for checking in passengers and issuing boarding passes, leaving passengers to do so manually.
The airport management said in a statement on its website that the cyber attack “has affected flight schedules on a large scale and unfortunately flights will be delayed or canceled.”
The statement said that work is being done on a priority basis to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Berlin Airport said in a message on its website that “due to a technical problem in the system providing services throughout Europe, check-in is taking longer. We are trying to find a solution as soon as possible.”
According to the spokesperson, Frankfurt Airport in Germany was not affected by the cyber attack.
