Lahore: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has signed the “Local Government Act 2025”, a new local government law that comes into force in Punjab. The following points are worth noting: 1. Formation of Union Council
Each union council will have 13 members:
9 directly elected councilors
4 reserved seats (for women, youth, laborers, minorities) 2. Election of leadership, election of chairman and vice chairman will be through internal voting. 3. Political affiliation: All elected members will have to join a political party within a month.
- Abolition of the ward system
There will no longer be a ward system in union councils.
