Glastonbury: British police have launched an investigation against rap punk duo ‘Bob Wylon’ over controversial sloganeering during Britain’s famous Glastonbury Music Festival.
Recently, a member of the band shouted the slogan ‘Death to the IDF’ against the Israeli army on stage at the Glastonbury Music Festival, which is considered hate speech.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, videos and audio recordings of the incident are being reviewed to determine whether this action amounts to incitement to hatred or not.
Police say that legal action will be decided after the investigation.
The BBC broadcast the performance live, but later apologized, saying that the language used did not meet the organization’s editorial standards and that the broadcast should have been stopped immediately.
British ministers and several political and social circles have strongly criticized the act.
Senior Labor Party leader and Health Minister Wes Strating called the slogan “hate speech,” while Prime Minister Keir Starmer also called the move unacceptable.
After the incident, the United States canceled the visas of Bob Wilson’s members. According to a US State Department spokesperson, there is no place in the United States for those who promote hatred and violence.
Bob Wilson defended his stance on social media, saying that he cannot remain silent and that his art is to encourage young people to speak the truth.
The performance of Irish rap group Kneecap at the same festival is also being criticized, as they have been accused of using inflammatory language on stage and supporting Hezbollah in previous shows. The police have also begun investigating their performance.
