Lahore: The government has started preparations to ban Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan. The Punjab government has contacted us in this regard. According to sources, a list of 4500 people associated with Tehreek-e-Labbaik has been prepared, and raids are being conducted. In addition to this, 2700 have already been arrested. Ahle Sunnat leaders say that a crackdown is also being carried out against mosques and madrasas in different cities of the country.
The decision to ban Tehreek-e-Labbaik was taken at an extraordinary meeting on law and order, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The meeting decided that strict action will be taken against those involved in hate speeches, incitement and lawbreaking. Cases will be registered under terrorism provisions against elements involved in the martyrdom of police officers and destruction of public property.
The Punjab government has decided that the leadership of the party involved in extremism will be included in the Fourth Schedule, while their properties and assets will be handed over to the Auqaf Department. There will be a complete ban on the banners, posters and advertisements of this party; their bank accounts and social media accounts will also be closed.
Even before this decision of the Punjab cabinet, a crackdown has been intensified against the leaders and workers of TLP. According to sources in the Punjab Police, lists of 4,500 leaders and workers have been prepared from across the province. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar sent the lists of 4,500 leaders and workers to all RPOs of Punjab, including CCPO Lahore, while all officers have been ordered to immediately arrest TLP leaders and workers.
According to sources, lists of 1,350 leaders and workers from Lahore have been given to CCPO Lahore, and lists of 350 workers and leaders from the Sheikhupura division have been given to RPO Sheikhupura. In addition, lists of 330 leading members from the Sahiwal division and 450 from the Gujranwala division have been given, while lists of 430 leaders and workers from the Faisalabad region have been given. IG Punjab has directed all officers to arrest TLP leaders and workers soon.
Meanwhile, Ahlan Nast leaders say that along with actions against Tehreek-e-Labbaik, the government has also started an indiscriminate crackdown against mosques and madrasas.
The Punjab government has decided to contact the federal government to ban the religious party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan to establish ‘state writ and rule of law’.
According to a statement issued by the provincial government in Lahore on Thursday, ‘In an extraordinary meeting on law and order chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it was decided that the Punjab government will recommend to the federal government to ban the extremist party.’
According to the statement, among other decisions, ‘It was also agreed to immediately arrest those involved in hate speech, incitement and lawbreaking in Punjab and to prosecute leaders and workers involved in the assassination of police officers and destruction of government property in terrorism courts.’
The Punjab government has decided that ‘the leadership of the extremist party will be included in the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act and all their properties and assets will be handed over to the Auqaf Department.’
In a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, it was decided that ‘there will be a complete ban on posters, banners, and advertisements of the extremist party, and the social media accounts of the extremist party spreading hatred will be closed.’
According to the statement, ‘All bank accounts of the extremist party will be frozen and the Loudspeaker Act will be suspended.’ It was also decided to take the strictest action against the violation.
