Another achievement of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Bone marrow, cochlear implant and thalassemia also included in the health card

Peshawar: After kidney and liver transplants in the province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has included bone marrow, cochlear implant and thalassemia in the health card, after which patients will now get free treatment for these diseases as well.

Sources say that earlier kidney and liver transplants were done in the province on the health card, but during the caretaker government, this free treatment was stopped due to lack of funds, after which free treatment was stopped for almost two years, which the PTI government has now decided to not only restore it again but also include more diseases in it.

It is being told that a summary of the health facility program in this regard was sent to the cabinet for approval, in which the finance department has also given its opinions and suggestions, while consultations with various consultants and hospitals have also been completed.

Sources say that now an appropriation fund will be established on the lines of Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan for the free treatment of these diseases, while initially, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has released Rs 100 in the form of a reserve fund, through which kidney transplantation will be restored. The Health Department and the Finance Department will jointly complete the complete code of conduct and other matters in this regard.

Sources also say that now government hospitals will be given priority for free treatment. Cochlear implant and thalassemia treatment on a health card will be provided at Hayatabad Medical Complex. Children up to the age of five who are deprived of the ability to speak and hear will get free treatment on a health card.

Institute of Kidney Diseases Hospital has been selected for kidney transplantation and Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital, Islamabad, has been selected for liver transplantation and bone marrow.
