Dawn Investigation Cell
Dubai: Pakistan’s non-participation in the closing ceremony of the Champions Trophy has raised questions on the ICC, as the host country Pakistan was not represented at the closing ceremony.
Sources have said that Pakistan’s tournament director Sameer Ahmed was present at the Dubai Stadium but the ICC did not bother to represent the host country.
ICC Chairman J. Shah, New Zealand and BCCI officials from India were invited to the stage at the closing ceremony, but despite being the host country, no Pakistani was invited to the ceremony.
Dawn contacted the ICC spokesperson several times but did not receive any response from the council.
According to media reports, the ICC was informed that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi would not be available for the closing ceremony and Tournament Director Sameer Ahmed Syed would attend the ceremony in his place.
PCB officials are considering writing a formal letter to the ICC in this regard to find out the reason for ignoring the host board.
According to media reports, it is up to the ICC officials to decide who to invite on stage at the closing ceremony of an ICC event.
In the past, the host country has always been represented on the stage of ICC events, but surprisingly, this tradition was not followed in Dubai, which has led to PCB officials and cricket fans being very unhappy with this attitude of the ICC.
