Peshawar: In a 7-page report by Accountability Committee member Qazi Anwar Advocate, Speaker Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati has been given a clean chit and acquitted of the charges.
The report states that the allegations made against Speaker Babar Saleem Swati could not be proven, the Speaker had no role in the payment of Rs 30 million for the renovation of the Speaker’s House, as Speaker Babar Saleem Swati had to go to attend a conference in Australia.
The report states that Class IV employees were recruited without advertisement as per the rules on the recommendation of the Employment Exchange Office, all appointments and promotions including the Special Secretary were made in accordance with the law, all appointments and promotions in the Assembly Secretariat were made on the recommendations of the DPC.
The accountability committee report states that the Speaker is accountable to the Assembly in terms of his position and not to the committee.
The report further states that Azam Swati had accused KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati of corruption and illegal recruitment. The Speaker, taking notice of the allegations, wrote a letter to the party committee for an inquiry. The committee sought evidence of the allegations from Azam Khan Swati.
Sources have told Daily Dawn and Dawn TV that the investigation report has been sent to PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.
