Sahiwal: A seminar was organized at Sahiwal Arts Council on the occasion of World Environment Day. The seminar was attended by Commissioner Sahiwal Division Shoaib Iqbal Syed, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Mahmood, Member Punjab Assembly Muhammad Arshad Malik, Director Information Aqeel Ashfaq, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Niaz Ahmed Mughal, former MNA Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, Director Sahiwal Arts Council Dr. Syed Riaz and a large number of students of colleges and universities and civil society. Addressing the ceremony, Commissioner Shoaib Iqbal Syed said that the purpose of celebrating today’s day is to raise a voice against plastic pollution. He said that the government is spending billions of rupees to control environmental pollution, we must do our part and support the government in keeping the environment clean. He said that on Eid-ul-Adha, we all have to prove that we are responsible citizens and instead of throwing away the remains of sacrificial animals, we should put them in the shopping bags and deliver them to the designated points. Member of Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Arshad said that under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, actions are underway against those who make and sell plastic bags. He said that to include Pakistan in the ranks of developed countries, we need to become a nation. He said that today, to provide a healthy environment to the new generation, we should pledge not to use plastic, plant trees and keep Punjab clean. Other speakers also addressed the event and informed the participants in detail about the harmful effects of plastic on health. At the end of the event, cloth bags were distributed among the participants, a walk was held to create awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on human life and saplings were planted on the lawn of the Arts Council.
