The Islamabad High Court has given time to notify the NAB prosecution team on the appeal to suspend the sentence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the 190 million pound case and adjourned the hearing till June 11.
The hearing on the appeal to suspend the sentence of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the 190 million pound case in the Islamabad High Court was conducted by Acting Chief Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif.
Barrister Salman Safdar appeared in court and took the stand that the hearing was on the applications for suspension of sentence, after vows, wishes and prayers, today’s date was given, but we did not get today’s date easily, Toshakhana One, Toshakhana Two and now a 190 million pound case has been filed, more than 300 cases have been filed against the founder of PTI.
He said that the trial court sentenced him, the prosecution told the High Court that it was not right and it should be suspended, no one knows about the decisions, how are these decisions in which the husband and wife have been kept inside for 6 months, this is the most controversial decision against the founder of PTI.
Lawyer Salman Safdar said that there are observations of the Supreme Court against the judge who pronounced the decision in the case.
Special Prosecutor NAB Rafe Maqsood said that this court has a very valuable time, you should listen to me, I have not said anything yet, I request that the federal government appoint a special prosecutor in this case, the federal government has not appointed any prosecutor general yet, I came to know about this case last night, I received the notice at night, give us time.
Barrister Salman Safdar said that the woman was sentenced to 7 years, and is entitled to bail, the Supreme Court had given a decision against the judge who gave this decision, and journalists related to the decision in this case gave the dates, I have been practicing law for 23 years, I have never found out before the decision came.
He said that Bushra Bibi was sentenced in less than 20 days, the prosecution runs the trial in the trial court very quickly, and when the High Court case comes, then such things happen, the case is not being fixed.
NAB Prosecutor Rafi Maqsood objected to Barrister Salman Safdar’s arguments and said we received the notice yesterday, give us time, if we want to bring a special team against PTI founder Imran Khan, then bring it, we are not afraid, NAB Prosecutor Rafi Maqsood said that give us 4 weeks.
The Acting Chief Justice said that if you want to get notification from the prosecution team, then take 7 days, NAB Prosecutor Rafi Maqsood said that correspondence has to be done with the Ministry of Law, give us 4 weeks.
Barrister Salman Safdar opposed the NAB request.
The court directed NAB to notify the prosecution team within 7 days.
The Acting Chief Justice said that you have to do it with the relevant ministries or appoint a prosecution team from wherever.
Imran Khan’s lawyer Latif Khosa said that the whole world says that human rights are being violated.
The NAB prosecutor said that it is Eid holiday, so more time should be given.
Justice Muhammad Asif said that even now you have been given more time, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till June 11.
