The new Kaaba Cover Handed Over to the Key Bearer Will Be Changed on 1st Muharram

Makkah: Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region and Deputy Chairman of the Central Hajj Committee, on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, handed over the new Kaaba Cover to the Key Bearer of the Kaaba.
According to SPA, the Minister of Hajj, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabi’ah, and the Deputy Key Bearer of the Kaaba, Abdul Malik bin Taha Al-Shaybi, signed the handover document.

It should be noted that now the Kaaba Cover is changed on 1st Muharram.

Earlier, for several decades, the Kaaba Cover (Kiswah) was changed every year during Hajj on the morning of the 9th Dhul-Hijjah after the pilgrims left for the plain of Arafat.
The preparation of the Kaaba Cover is done at the King Abdulaziz Complex. One thousand kilograms of raw silk are used. The complex has the latest jacquard machines for the production of the fabric.
120 kilograms of gold and 100 kilograms of silver thread are used for the Ghilaf of the Kaaba.
