Dictatorship in the guise of democracy: Why did they protest during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s speech, 26 opposition members were suspended for 15 sessions, fined Rs 2 million

Lahore: Dictatorship in the guise of democracy. 26 opposition members have been suspended for 15 sessions for protesting and raising slogans during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s speech in the Punjab Assembly.

According to an order issued by Punjab Assembly Speaker Ahmed Khan on Saturday, 26 opposition members have been suspended for 15 sessions in the House for creating a ruckus, raising slogans, pushing and tearing documents.

Ahmed Khan said that he is sending a reference to the Election Commission against the 26 members.

The Speaker took the stand that the right to protest is recognized but its limits are subject to the constitution, law and rules. The sanctity and order of the House will be maintained at all costs.

The 26 members who have been suspended for 15 sessions include Malik Fahad Masood, Muhammad Tanveer Aslam, Syed Rafat Mahmood, Yasir Mahmood Qureshi, Kaleemullah Khan, Muhammad Ansar Iqbal, Ali Asif, Zulfiqar Ali, Ahmed, Mujtaba Chaudhry and Shahid Javed.

In addition to them, Muhammad Ismail, Khyal Ahmed, Shahbaz Ahmed, Tayyab Rashid, Imtiaz Mahmood, Ali Imtiaz, Rashid Tufail, Rai Muhammad Murtaza Iqbal, Khalid Zubair Nassar, Chaudhry Muhammad Ijaz Shafi, Saima Kanwal, Muhammad Naeem, Sajjad Ahmed, Rana Aurangzeb, Shoaib Amir and Osama Asghar Ali Gujjar have also been suspended.
