Sahiwal: Police have arrested 3 people on the charge of allegedly sharing hate speech, blasphemous content and sectarian content on social media.
Sahiwal police have said that 3 people have been arrested in different cases, they are accused of sharing hate speech, blasphemous content and sectarian content on social media.
Sahiwal District Police Officer (DPO) Rana Tahir said that all the suspects were arrested after 3 FIRs were registered.
He said that our message to the youth is clear that they should be especially careful while using social media, and not share any content that hurts sectarian beliefs or sacred symbols.
The arrests were made under sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) (295-A) (hurting the religious feelings of any class by insulting religious beliefs), (298-A) (using insulting words etc. about sacred persons), and Section 11 (hate speech) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PEC) 2016.
Two of the three applications were filed on June 29 and one on June 30, which contained details of social media posts that incited “sectarian hatred” against the Shia community.
An FIR registered at City Sahiwal police station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Azhar mentioned two Facebook posts shared by an account.
A second FIR registered at City Chichawatni police station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Jaffer mentioned a video that was shared on a Facebook page.
A third FIR was registered at Ghala Mandi police station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Akash Rohil, which was based on a WhatsApp status, a screenshot of which was taken and saved in the police record.
