According to DG Wildlife Mubeen Elahi, given the increasing dangers of keeping lions across the province, a complete ban is now being imposed.

A lion that escaped from a farmhouse in the Johar Town area of ​​Lahore on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday attacked citizens, resulting in the injury of three people, including two children.

Following the incident, the Punjab Wildlife Department has announced a complete ban on keeping pet lions across the province.

The injured include three siblings, five-year-old Azan, seven-year-old Zoya and 20-year-old Samina, who were immediately shifted to Jinnah Hospital, where the condition of both children is said to be critical.

Director General (DG), Wildlife Department, Punjab, Mubeen Elahi confirmed that the lion in the farmhouse was kept illegally and without permission.

The lion’s owner, Malik Azam, has been arrested and a case has been registered on the complaint of the head of the affected family, Muhammad Qaiser.

He said that ‘the lion has been taken into custody and shifted to a safe place while a joint operation by the police and the wildlife department is underway.
