Peshawar: The issue of women taking oath on reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has intensified once again, on which the opposition parties have started consulting legal experts to convene an assembly session.
According to sources, if the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session is not convened on time for the oath-taking on reserved seats, the provincial government may be caught in a constitutional crisis before the upcoming Senate elections.
Sources say that the Senate elections are going to be held on July 21 and the oath-taking of women members elected on reserved seats is being considered mandatory before these elections.
Sources further said that if the session is not convened even after the court decisions, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government may face difficulties not only on the constitutional but also on the political front.
Sources say that the Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is considering calling a meeting soon so that the court orders can be implemented and the provincial government can avoid any legal complications in the Senate elections. On the other hand, the opposition parties are of the view that not taking oath despite the court decision on reserved seats is against the constitution and democracy, so this delay cannot be tolerated any longer.
