Sahiwal: Acting Commissioner Shahid Mahmood has said that providing a clean environment to citizens is the top priority of the district administration, but it is also the responsibility of the concerned institutions to further improve the sanitation system through cooperation and effective coordination. He was presiding over a meeting held in his office here regarding sanitation and sewage. The meeting was attended by Chief Officer Corporation Sheikh Ashfaq and officers of the concerned departments. In the meeting, Sahiwal Water and Sanitation Services Company gave a detailed briefing on the overall sanitation situation, which included points such as sanitation at the union council level, door-to-door collection, availability of machinery and the amount of waste collected daily. The Commissioner said that special attention is being paid to aspects like digital surveillance, prompt redressal of complaints and human resource management to modernize the sanitation system. He further said that helpline 1139 should be fully activated and on-ground teams should be kept active for registering and redressing complaints. Meanwhile, a detailed review of stray dogs and dog bite cases was also conducted across the district, where he clarified that the protection of human lives is the top priority and teams should be formed at the level of the District Council, Municipal Corporation and Health Department Union Council to ensure the eradication of stray dogs at all costs.
