Islamabad: Order to block YouTube channels of Matiullah Jan and Asad Toor suspended

Islamabad: The District and Sessions Court suspended the order to block two YouTube channels and issued notices to the National Crime Agency for July 21.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka heard the case, the court suspended the order to block YouTube channels of two journalists Matiullah Jan and Asad Toor.

The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad had issued an order to block twenty-seven YouTube channels for broadcasting anti-state content, including the YouTube channels of journalists Matiullah Jan and Asad Toor.

Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah gave the decision on the request of the FIA. In a two-page written order, the court directed the concerned officer-in-charge of YouTube to immediately block these channels.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka has also issued a written order approving the appeal of Asad Toor and Matiullah Jan.

The court suspended the magistrate’s order to block the YouTube channels of Matiullah Jan and Asad Toor and issued a notice to the National Crime Agency on July 21, seeking its response.

The order states that journalists Matiullah Jan and Asad Toor took the position in their applications that they were not heard, according to the petitioners, they were not even given notice, and the requirements of Article 10A regarding a transparent trial were not met.

The order states that the magistrate ordered the blocking of the YouTube channels without hearing the appellants. Prima facie, no notice was issued in this case. The magistrate’s order is suspended to the extent of Matiullah Jan and Asad Toor.
