Islamabad: Significant progress has been made by the local court regarding the blocking of 27 well-known YouTube channels; the order to block 5 more YouTube channels has been suspended.
6 YouTubers had filed an appeal against the decision of Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad. Afzal Majuka heard the application.
After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the order to block the channels to the extent of Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Oriya Maqbool Jan, Abdul Qadir, Uzair Anwar, and Umair Rafique.
Due to the unavailability of senior journalist Habib Akram, the appeal could not be decided, and the court adjourned Habib Akram’s application for appearance and arguments until July 14.
It should be noted that on July 8, Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah had ordered the blocking of 27 well-known YouTube channels, including those of journalists Matiullah Jan, Asad Toor, Oriya Maqbool Jan, and Siddique Jan, at the request of the FIA.
