Lahore: PTI convoy reaches Lahore, 24 workers arrested from Shahdara
A convoy of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentarians led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, which left Islamabad, has reached Lahore.
A heavy police contingent reached Shahdara before the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf convoy reached Lahore. According to police officials, the PTI convoy and workers are not allowed to gather, while the police have detained 24 workers including PTI leader Yasir Gilani from Shahdara.
Regarding the upcoming protest, a meeting of the PTI Punjab and KP parliamentary parties is underway at a private farmhouse in Raiwind. According to sources, the meeting, chaired by Chairman PTI Barrister Gauhar and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, will decide on a strategy for the movement starting from August 5.
Party leaders including members of the National and Provincial Assembly are participating in the PTI meeting, while the decisions taken in the meeting will be informed through a press briefing tomorrow.
Before leaving for Lahore, the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that the convoy is to express solidarity with the representatives expelled from the Punjab Assembly. Those who think that we are going for a protest should know that this is just an expression of solidarity.
Before leaving for Lahore, members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf National and Provincial Assembly gathered at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House. The meeting was attended by the party leadership, members of the National Assembly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab Assembly.
In the meeting, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja made it clear that they were going to Lahore only for talks, that no unconstitutional activity was our aim, and that there was no risk of arrests.
