Political reporter, Daily Dawn, Dawn TV report

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has disqualified Member of the National Assembly Jamshed Dasti. The commission has issued a reserved decision while approving the reference sent against him by the Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Election Commission, while approving two separate petitions filed regarding Jamshed Dasti’s disqualification, declared that the educational certificates he submitted have been proven to be fake.

The decision alleges that Jamshed Dasti submitted fake educational documents while submitting his nomination papers for the National Assembly seat, which is a clear violation of the election laws. On this basis, the Speaker of the National Assembly had sent a reference against him to the Election Commission under Article 63 of the Constitution.

Following the decision of the Election Commission, Jamshed Dasti is no longer eligible for membership of the National Assembly and his seat will be declared vacant. According to legal experts, this decision of the Election Commission will take effect immediately, however, Jamshed Dasti has the right to appeal against it in court.
