Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot: Several party leaders and workers have been arrested after the official launch of the nationwide protest movement for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Imran Khan had given a call for nationwide protests, which were to reach their ‘peak’ today on the occasion of the completion of two years of his arrest. PTI leader Asad Qaiser said that August 5 is the starting point of the protest, but it should not be considered the ‘last call’.

PTI said in a statement that ‘the way the Punjab police is dragging an elderly woman like Rehana Dar is a very shameful scene’.

A video shared on the PTI’s official X account showed Rehana Dar, who was a candidate from Sialkot against PML-N Defense Minister Khawaja Asif in the 2024 general elections, being forced into a van by police personnel.

The party alleged that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Punjab IG Dr Usman Anwar had trampled on all principles of morality and decency and had descended to a new level of depravity.

The PTI Bahawalpur account claimed that several of its workers who were protesting in the Kohlu district of Balochistan had been arrested. Photos shared by the party showed workers making victory signs while boarding a police van, while police personnel were seen armed with batons.

PTI Multan alleged that its rally in Lahore was ‘attacked’ by police, in which several vehicles were damaged. In the photos shared, the rear window of a vehicle could be seen broken and a hole in it.

Asad Qaiser had said yesterday that the police have started raids in Punjab and Kashmir, while PTI Punjab Media Cell Chief Shian Bashir claimed that the police conducted about 200 raids and detained party workers, who were allegedly released after submitting affidavits.

Police raid the house of the former PTI Information Advisor for Punjab

Massarat Jamshed Cheema, while posting a message on the social networking website “X”, said that the police raided our house at night, where they violated the sanctity of the chador and the four walls.

Taking a dig at the provincial government, he said that in a democracy, if a section of the society protests and damages government property, the institutions take action, but here the protest does not even start, and they violate the sanctity of the chador and the four walls in advance.
