Government indulges in fake cases, misuse of law common: Cases registered against 9 journalists and 689 civilians under the so-called PECA Act

Islamabad: Federal Interior Ministry officials, while briefing the Standing Committee of the Ministry of Information, have informed that 9 journalists and 689 civilians have been registered under PECA.

Officials told the committee that cases were registered against Adil Raja and Imran Riaz in Rawalpindi for taking a stand against the state, a case was registered against Shahzad Rafique in Gujranwala on the request of a citizen, and a citizen had applied for defamation on social media.

Cases were registered against Ahmed Noorani, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, and Muhammad Waheed from Islamabad for spreading an anti-state narrative, and action was also taken against Farhan Malik in Karachi, who is still on bail.
