No equipment to test donkey or beef: Senate committee reveals

Parliamentary reporter, Daily Dawn, Dawn TV report

Islamabad: Officials have told the Senate Committee on Interior that there is no equipment to test beef or donkey meat in the federal capital.

Deputy Director Food Dr. Tahira revealed on Tuesday that ‘There is no system in Islamabad to check the meat to see which animal it is. Whether it is donkey or beef, we do not have the PCR facility.’

The incident of donkey meat being sold in Islamabad took place in July 2025. The Food Authority had raided the Tarnol area and recovered 25 maunds of meat and more than 50 live donkeys and a foreign national was arrested.

Initial investigations revealed that the meat was to be supplied abroad and no solid evidence of sale was found in Islamabad.
