Parliamentary reporter Daily Dawn, Dawn TV report
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan has nominated Azam Swati for the Senate and Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the opposition leader in the National Assembly. I have nominated him for the opposition leader.
According to Daily Dawn and Dawn TV sources, the PTI founder informed those who came to meet him at Adiala Jail about the nomination of the opposition leader.
Sources say that further consultation has been directed on the nomination for the opposition leader in the Senate. Azam Swati is the strongest candidate for the opposition leader in the Senate so far.
It should be noted that PTI leader Omar Ayub was not only deprived of the post of opposition leader in the National Assembly due to his conviction by the anti-terrorism court in the May 9 cases, but was also removed from all the standing committees of the National Assembly, including the Public Accounts Committee.
The Election Commission had also issued a notification disqualifying Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz following the court’s decision, against which both leaders have approached the Peshawar High Court.
