Islamabad: This report of the economic census of Pakistan is out. This report of the Ministry of Planning has been published after the Population and Agriculture Census report, so that the gap can be filled that has been an obstacle to information-based economic planning in the country since 1947.
According to this report, there are 600,000 mosques and more than 36,000 madrassas in Pakistan, most of which are located in Punjab. In comparison, there are only 23,000 factories and 643,000 small production units.
The report also states that out of the total 40 million permanent units in Pakistan, there are about 7.2 million such establishments where 25.4 million people were working as of 2023. And the services sector employs 45 percent of the total workforce. Thus, the impression that industry is the largest employment generator in the country has been proven wrong.
According to the report, the Punjab and Karachi divisions have the highest number of economic establishments and workforce.
