Quetta: The Balochistan Assembly has amended the Anti-Terrorism Law and added a new clause under which specific terrorism cases in the province will now be tried under a secret and special court system instead of ordinary courts.

In this system, the identities of judges, lawyers, witnesses and other persons related to the case will be concealed, while the witnesses will be given code or symbolic names.

If necessary, cases will be heard from jails and specific places instead of courts, through virtual methods and electronic means, while voice-changing technology can also be used to conceal identities.

The law, titled the Balochistan Anti-Terrorism Amendment Act 2026, was presented in the assembly by Zarrin Magsi, a parliamentary secretary from the PML-N. Only Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, a member of the Haq-e-Tehreek from Gwadar and the provincial chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, opposed it. However, it was passed with a majority vote of the government members.
During this time, members from the opposition parties Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and the National Party were absent.
