Dubai: The issue of removing match referee Andy Pycroft from the event, who acted biased manner during the Pakistan-India match, has intensified, and there is a strong possibility of the match between Pakistan and the UAE not being cancelled.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is busy finding a middle ground on the demand of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to remove Asia Cup match referee Andy Pycroft from the event, and top ICC officials have held an emergency meeting in Dubai to resolve the dispute.
Representatives of the International Cricket Council, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) are participating in the important meeting underway in Dubai, while top officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board are participating in the meeting through video link.
The emergency meeting considered the issue of the ‘no handshake’ controversy and the change of referee.
According to sources, the departure of the Pakistan team from the hotel to the stadium has been stopped, and instructions have been given to the national players to return to their rooms; however, the equipment of the Pakistan team has been placed in the bus going to the stadium.
Earlier, sources said that ICC match referee Andy Pycroft may apologize to the Pakistan team over the no handshake issue, and if he apologizes, the matter is likely to end.
It should be noted that the match between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is scheduled for 7 pm today.
