Sahiwal: International hockey player Shahzada Alamgir has demanded that Pakistan Hockey Federation President Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani review the life bans imposed on famous Pakistani hockey Olympians in the past and fulfill the demands of justice.
According to the details, referring to a letter written to the Pakistan Hockey Federation by Tahir A. Rana, a representative of hockey circles from Canada, Shahzada Alamgir said that at a time when Pakistan hockey is in a serious crisis, the appointment of President Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani has proven to be a ray of hope for hockey lovers. He said that the hockey community expects the current leadership to take practical steps to correct the mistakes of the past and restore the dignity of the game.
He said that there were some decisions in the history of Pakistan hockey that harmed the game and the players. The life bans imposed on some Olympians in the past still remain a question mark in the sports circles. Due to these bans, renowned players like the late Olympians Naveed Alam and Rao Saleem Nazim left this world, and they were saddened that despite their services, justice was not done to them.
Prince Alamgir said that similarly, Rashidul Hassan, who was a member of Pakistan’s gold medal winning team in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, is still facing a ban. Although he has always raised his voice for the rights of the players. He reminded that in recent times, when the players of the national team were facing financial difficulties, Rashidul Hassan also offered to auction his Olympic gold medal so that the money could be used to help the players. He said that if the federation formally apologizes for its past mistakes, it will be a historic step that will not only restore the confidence of the players but will also strengthen the reputation of Pakistan Hockey.
