Lahore: Former international hockey player Prince Alamgir has expressed serious reservations over the current situation of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, saying that the national sport of hockey is facing the worst administrative crisis, and the clear orders of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Hockey Federation, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, are being ignored.
Prince Alamgir says that the Prime Minister of Pakistan had appointed Mir Tariq Hussain Musori as ad hoc President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation so that transparent scrutiny, free and fair elections and the formation of a new elected body could be made possible in the organization, but in practice, steps contrary to these goals are being taken.
He said that there are currently people in the Pakistan Hockey Federation against whom 113 audit cases of the FIA and NAB cases are pending, and in these circumstances, any kind of scrutiny or election process cannot be called transparent.
The former international hockey player demanded that a head be appointed in the Pakistan Hockey Federation who is well aware of the game of hockey, the problems of the players, and the international requirements. He said that the presence of an incompetent and controversial administration has harmed Pakistan Hockey at the global level.
Prince Alamgir appealed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to take immediate notice of the issues of the national game of hockey, abolish the current setup, and form an ad hoc three-member impartial committee so that the scrutiny and elections in the Pakistan Hockey Federation can be completed on the basis of merit and transparency.
He warned that if immediate corrective measures are not taken, the revival of Pakistan Hockey will become more difficult, which will directly affect the players and the national identity.
