Indian captain Suryakumar is in big trouble; a statement on ‘Operation Sindoor’ cost him dear

‘Great opportunity, we stand with the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, we want to dedicate this victory to our armed forces, ’ Indian captain

Azhar Ch. Daily Dawn, Dawn TV report

Dubai: Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is facing strict action from the International Cricket Council (ICC) over his statements made after the match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
The ICC has accepted the complaint of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and decided to review the matter formally. The PCB maintains that Suryakumar Yadav ‘harmed the reputation of the game by involving it in politics’ and violated the code of conduct.
The PCB had sent a detailed letter to the ICC, stating that after the match against Pakistan, the Indian captain had deliberately referred to the Pahalgam incident and ‘Operation Sindoor’. The letter said that this behavior was ‘against the spirit of the code of conduct’ and strict action should be taken against Suryakumar Yadav. The PCB warned that if action was not taken, ‘the cricket field will become a political arena.’ It may be recalled that India had defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the group match played in Dubai on September 14.
After this match, Suryakumar Yadav had said at the presentation ceremony that ‘the best opportunity, taking some time, we stand with the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. We express our solidarity … We want to dedicate this victory to our armed forces who showed great bravery.’
Later in a press conference, he added that our government and the BCCI were on the same stand today… We came here only to play the game.’
The PCB says these statements are against the sanctity of the game. As per ICC regulations, Suryakumar will either admit the charges or face a formal hearing before the match referee.
The ICC’s final decision is expected in the next few days.
