Lahore: Despite tight security arrangements, tension remained in the air, Multan Road remained closed for all types of traffic, and mobile internet service was suspended in Pindi Islamabad with the approval of the Interior Minister.
In view of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik march in the federal capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, the city’s internal and external routes are closed, while mobile internet service is also suspended.
Tehreek-e-Labbaik has called for a protest in Islamabad on October 10 under the name ‘Labbaik or Aqsa Million March’.
The federal capital, Islamabad, was completely sealed with containers following a call for a protest in favor of Gaza by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik, due to which attendance in government and private offices, schools and courts remained lower than usual, while citizens faced severe difficulties.
The main highway connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi was completely closed at the Faizabad Interchange, and a heavy police force was deployed. Government and private employees going to offices could not reach on time, while the closure of metro buses and feeder routes further disturbed citizens. Public transport and motorcycle service providers charged arbitrarily high fares.
Due to the complete sealing of Faizabad and the Red Zone, litigants and lawyers could not reach the Supreme Court, High Court and subordinate courts, which led to the postponement of cases. Similarly, attendance in schools was also very low. Patients going to hospitals faced severe difficulties due to the closure of the Faizabad Interchange.
Islamabad Traffic Police announced alternative routes and said that heavy traffic entry into Islamabad will be banned until further notice. According to the police, citizens should use Park Road, Expressway, Lehtrar Road and Khanna routes, while those going to the airport should travel via Srinagar Highway.
The Interior Ministry had issued a letter to the PTA to suspend mobile internet services in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The letter said that mobile internet services in the twin cities will remain suspended indefinitely from 12 midnight last night.
On Thursday, the Rawalpindi district administration had imposed Section 144 in the city until October 11.
A notification issued by the office of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema said that all kinds of protests, sit-ins, gatherings, processions and rallies will be banned in the city until October 11.
The notification further said that in the current situation, there is a risk of violent acts near sensitive and important installations.
