London/Lahore: Imperial College London has denied the Punjab government’s claim that it is setting up its campus in Lahore’s Nawaz Sharif IT City. The college clarified that all its campuses are located only in the UK.

On October 18, the PML-N had said in a post on its official ‘X’ account that in a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it was decided that a campus of Imperial College London would be set up in Nawaz Sharif IT City, and its foundation stone laying ceremony would be held in November.

The post also said that a modern 300-bed hospital would be built within the college campus.

A similar statement was made by Punjab’s senior minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb, on her ‘X’ account, saying that the Imperial College London campus would be set up in Nawaz Sharif IT City, which would also include a modern 300-bed hospital, and its foundation stone would be laid in November.

The Punjab government’s official ‘X’ account also repeated the same claim.

However, Imperial College London denied all these claims, calling them ‘false’.

In a statement published on its official website on Monday, the college said that reports that Imperial College London was planning to open its campus abroad were false.

It was further stated that false reports are circulating in the media and online that Imperial is going to open a campus in Nawaz Sharif IT City, Lahore, Pakistan. Imperial has no such plans, as all the university’s campuses are located only in the UK.

The institution further said that those who want to know about Imperial’s international activities should visit the website of the university’s International Relations Office.

On the other hand, Javed Hassan, a graduate of Imperial College London and former chairman of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), said that he was surprised for some time by the bold claim of a campus in Nawaz Sharif IT City.

He sarcastically said that it turns out that Imperial College is not that adventurous, its campus plans are completely limited to the UK, it seems that certification is still a new concept.
