Opposition alliance declares the 27th Amendment unconstitutional, announces to observe Black Day on Friday, November 21

Islamabad: The opposition alliance Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ain Pakistan has completely rejected the 27th and 26th constitutional amendments as unconstitutional and announced to observe Black Day across the country on Friday, November 21.

A statement issued after the meeting of Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ain Pakistan said that the amendments are an attack on the basic structure of the constitution and the judiciary, an attempt to subordinate the judiciary to the administration is unacceptable, and thus, the powers of the Supreme Court have been limited.

According to the statement, the meeting paid tribute to the resignation of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah and demanded the restoration of the constitution in its original form, and vowed that democratic resistance against the unconstitutional amendments will continue.

The opposition alliance said that it fully supports the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Aman Jirga declaration, and a resolution against the 27th Amendment will be presented in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

The Pakistan Movement for the Protection of the Constitution announced a march from the Punjab Assembly to the Lahore High Court and said that there will be full participation in the lawyers’ protest in Lahore and that next Friday will be observed as a black day across the country.

According to the declaration, the immediate release of Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, PTI leadership, and the Baloch Unity Committee was demanded.

The meeting also directed the assembly members to walk from the National Assembly to the Supreme Court on Monday.
