27th Constitutional Amendment: Lahore High Court Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza also resigns

The senior judge of the Punjab High Court has sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari for approval,Dawn sources.

Lahore: Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza has resigned from the post of judge of the Lahore High Court, becoming the first judge of any high court in the country to resign after the controversial 27th Constitutional Amendment became law.

According to family sources, his resignation letter stated that in view of the recent amendment to the constitution, he cannot serve further.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza was appointed as an additional judge of the Lahore High Court in 2014, and his retirement was scheduled for March 6, 2028.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza has sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari for approval.

According to sources, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza was likely to be transferred after the constitutional amendment, to which he had sent his resignation as a judge of the Lahore High Court to the President.

It should be noted that after the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment by the Parliament, senior Supreme Court judges Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah also resigned from their posts.

Similarly, Supreme Court Justice Musarat Hilali had resigned from joining the Federal Constitutional Court.
