London: Pakistani citizens have come out on top in the applications submitted for political asylum in the UK.
A total of 40,000 asylum applications were submitted in the year 2024, out of which more than 11,000 Pakistanis submitted them.
According to the data, this number is five times more than in 2022. The report states that Pakistan has become the country with the highest number of asylum applications among 175 countries.
All Pakistani applicants had entered the UK legally through visit, work and student visas, after which they applied for asylum.
Britain’s Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philip called the situation a “complete failure” of the visa system and said tough and urgent measures were needed to stop abuse of the visa and border system.
