Sahiwal: A full-fledged and organized protest dharna was organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Sahiwal District against the Punjab Government’s controversial and anti-people local government law at Pakpattan Chowk, Sahiwal. A large number of Jamaat-e-Islami workers, officials, and the public participated in this protest, registering a strong protest against the government’s unjust measures.
On this occasion, Dr. Babar Rashid, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Central, and Rizwan Chaudhry, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Okara, as well as Rana Maroof Mujahid, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakpattan, participated specially and addressed the participants. The speakers termed the Punjab Local Government Law as against democracy, public autonomy and decentralization of powers at the grassroots level and said that this law is tantamount to taking away the fundamental rights of the people instead of empowering them.
Addressing the protest sit-in, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Sahiwal District Mr. Tayyab Mahmood Baloch said in his special statement that we want to change the system, the judicial system is also not giving justice to the people, this rotten system has been created by military dictators and the rulers who grew up in their laps, we will hold a public referendum across the country on January 15, we will include all stakeholders in the referendum panel, we will take public opinion against the black law of local government across the country, the opinion of the people will be brought before the world, at present, sit-ins are going on from Karachi to Khyber,
All the district, tehsil and local officials of Jamaat-e-Islami also addressed the sit-in, they said that they will not accept the seizure of local government powers under any circumstances, they will call on people from all over Punjab to surround the Punjab Assembly, a heinous plan has been made to hold non-party elections, the horse trading that is done in the National and Provincial Assembly is planned to be done in the streets and neighborhoods. We do not accept this black law and will launch a full-scale movement against it. Provincial governments keep the power in their hands. Nora is racing in the name of NFC. PPP and PML-N are fooling the people. Finally, Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Dr. Babar Rashid said, “Jamaat-e-Islami is highlighting the real problems of the people. After getting the mandate through public opinion, we will march towards the four provincial assemblies and hold sit-ins in front of the provincial assemblies for the rights of the people.”
