Lahore: Pakistan Kisan Ittehad has given a call for a protest movement in Lahore on Monday, January 5. During a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, President Khalid Mahmood Khokhar said that the country’s farmers are facing difficulties despite their hard work and resources, while the decision-makers are abroad.
He said that this year wheat was cultivated only out of the fear of God, but the farmers are in deep distress because instead of the rate of 8 to 10 thousand rupees in the market, the rate of a sack of wheat is now only 1,500 rupees.
Khalid Mahmood Khokhar added that farmers are forced to sell their jewelry, animals and trees to buy fertilizer so that the country’s food security remains, but they do not get respect or proper compensation for their hard work. He said that Kisan cards were also given in the form of loans and cabbage, quinoa and sugarcane farmers are facing severe difficulties.
