Islamabad: The Pharmacy Council of Pakistan has been deprived of a permanent secretary for ten years. The secretary’s seat has become a musical chair for the past several years; sometimes one additional secretary is given charge, and sometimes another is given charge. The future of more than 900 pharmacy colleges and 70 thousand students is in danger due to this game. According to the details, the Pharmacy Council under the Ministry of Health has become a laboratory. The council has been without a permanent secretary for ten years; occasionally, an additional secretary is given charge, while at other times, another is given responsibility. Similarly, three officers have been appointed to the post of Director General within a year. According to sources, preparations have been completed to reinstate Dr. Akhtar Abbas, a DRAP officer who was removed from the post of Secretary on the orders of the Islamabad High Court. It is worth noting that the Islamabad High Court has ordered the federal government to restructure the structure of the council as per the law. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also ordered an investigation into the Pakistan Pharmacy Council in August last year after receiving complaints of corruption.
