Islamabad: The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad sentenced Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali to 17 years in prison and a fine of Rs 36 million in the controversial tweets case. Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka delivered a brief verdict in the courtroom.
Special Prosecutors Barrister Fahad and Rana Usman were present in the courtroom at the time of the verdict. None of the lawyers representing Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali were present in the courtroom at the time of the verdict.
Earlier, the Anti-Terrorism Court sent Advocate Iman Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali, to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a dispute case outside the High Court.
After a hearing presided over by Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain, the court issued an order for the judicial remand of Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali, after which both were transferred to jail for 14 days.
It should be noted that Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali were arrested yesterday while going to the District Court from the Islamabad High Court Bar.
