Islamabad: The IMF has rejected Pakistan’s position of food emergency, while the international financial institution is also expressing concern over the violation of the $7 billion program.
According to sources, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is concerned about Pakistan’s violation of the $7 billion program. Sources say that the government has waived all taxes on 500,000 tons of sugar imports, over which the IMF is expressing displeasure.
The IMF has rejected Pakistan’s position of “food emergency”, and called it a clear violation of promises.
Sources said that after the permission to export sugar, the price exceeded Rs 200 per kg for the first time. The Ministry of Finance and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had opposed the tax exemption on sugar imports. According to sources, the cabinet approved the summary despite the opposition of the Ministry of Finance.
