Iran War, US Conflict with Germany Intensifies, Announces Withdrawal of Its Troops

Dawn TV Report, Dawn News

Frankfurt/Germany: The US has announced the withdrawal of 5,000 of its troops from NATO ally Germany.

According to media reports, the Pentagon announced that after the tension between President Donald Trump and Europe over the Iran war, Trump had threatened to reduce his troops in Germany in the context of a dispute with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Earlier, Trump had said that Europe was humiliating the US in talks to end the Iran war and that he did not see what foreign policy Washington was adopting.

A senior Pentagon official, speaking on condition of anonymity, called the recent German rhetoric “inappropriate and unhelpful.” The official said the US president was right to react to these contradictory remarks.

The Pentagon said the withdrawal of its forces from Germany is expected to be completed in the next six to 12 months. Germany has about 35,000 active-duty US military personnel, more than any other country in Europe.
