Dhaka: The ICC delegation failed to convince Bangladesh to play T20 World Cup matches in India. The ICC delegation’s meeting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board has come to an end.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has said that discussions were held with the ICC delegation in a constructive atmosphere, and the government’s security concerns were put before the ICC. Both sides agreed to continue the talks. Bangladesh has also submitted a formal request to the ICC to shift the World Cup matches to Sri Lanka.
According to the BCB statement, the possibility of moving Bangladesh to another group was also discussed, considering logistical issues.
The ICC delegation included General Manager Events and Corporate Communications, Gaurav Saxena and General Manager Integrity Unit Andrew Iffergrow. Gaurav Saxena attended the meeting online due to a delay in obtaining a visa. BCB President Aminul Islam, Vice President Shekaut Hussain and other board officials were present. At the end of the meeting, the BCB and the ICC agreed to continue negotiations on the matter.
The ICC will announce its final decision on Bangladesh’s matches in a few days, as Bangladesh has refused to play the World Cup in India.
