London: Pakistan has been included among the worst countries in the world in the World Economic Forum (WEF) report on gender equality.

Pakistan ranks 145th out of 146 countries, only the African country Sudan is below this number in the list.

The report says that there is a clear gender gap in employment and wage payment in Pakistan.

According to the World Economic Forum report, women earn 18 percent less than men, only 36 percent of women in Pakistan participate in economic activities, and only 23 percent of women are part of the workforce.

In the report, the neighboring country Bangladesh is ranked 99th and India is ranked 129th.

It should be remembered that in the World Economic Forum’s ‘Global Gender Gap Report 2023’, Pakistan was ranked 142nd out of 146 countries, while the gender equality rate was declared at 57.5 percent, which was the highest since 2006.

The annual report examined the current state and improvement of gender discrimination in 4 key categories, including economic participation and opportunities, access to education, health and survival, and political empowerment of citizens.

The report ranked Pakistan at the bottom of both regional and global rankings, with only Iran, Algeria, Chad and Afghanistan below Pakistan, ranking 145th out of 146 in 2022.

However, Pakistan had achieved 36.2 percent parity on the economic partnership and opportunity sub-index, an improvement of 5.1 percentage points over the past decade, although this level of parity was the lowest in contrast to the global average.
