Lahore: Former head coach of the Pakistan cricket team Jason Gillespie knocked on the door of the International Cricket Council (ICC) over non-payment of dues.

According to the sports website ‘Crick Info’, the financial dispute between former head coach of the national team Jason Gillespie and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has intensified, which came to light after he left office in December last year.

Gillespie accused the PCB of multiple violations of the contract and said that he has not been paid in full so far.

According to ESPNcricinfo sources, Gillespie has approached the PCB for payment of his dues, including bonuses that the board promised for winning the Test series against England in October 2024 and the ODI series against Australia in November.

The former Australian fast bowler has also raised the matter with the International Cricket Council (ICC), however it is not clear whether the ICC has the authority to intervene in the dispute.

Gillespie says that he was given specific written assurances from the PCB regarding financial compensation, which have not yet been fulfilled.

It should be noted that in October 2024, the head coach of the Pakistan white-ball team, Gary Kirsten, resigned from his position, he resigned due to differences with the PCB and selection committee member Aqib Javed.

Later, Jason Gillespie took over the interim coaching of the Pakistan ODI team in Australia.

However, Jason Gillespie was angry with the PCB for not extending the contract of assistant coach Tim Nelson for the tour of South Africa in December and refused to go to South Africa.

Following which, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Aqib Javed as the interim head coach of the national Test cricket team.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board took the position that Jason Gillespie did not give the board the required 4-month notice as per the contract.

Yesterday, the PCB issued a press release explaining that the former head coach of the national team had written a letter for settlement, on which he was informed of the breach of contract and the arrears.

According to the PCB press release, Jason Gillespie had resigned on his own and according to the contract, he has to pay the board an amount equal to 4 months’ salary. According to the contract, if the cricket board had fired Gillespie, he would have been paid 4 months’ salary.

However, it is not clear whether the PCB will seek damages from Gillespie for resigning without a notice period, but the board is considering this option. The PCB currently maintains that it does not owe Gillespie any arrears.
